3D is definitive form of cinema

Jon Landau, producer of Oscar winning films like 'Titanic' and 'Avatar' with James Cameron, says 3D is emerging as the definitive form of filmmaking, not just an alternative.
"3D is not an alternative form, it is the definitive form of cinema," said Landau, speaking at ScreenSingapore, a film business event organized by the Media Development Authority of Singapore from June 5-12.
The 50-year-old former Executive Vice President of Feature Film Production at Twentieth Century Fox is emphatic that 3D is the future of cinema.
"All our (visual) entertainment in future will be on 3D ? in our theaters, homes, mobile phones. When home TV goes 3D, everybody will be forced to do 3D. So the more directors we have working on the technology now, the better."
Landau said that the films made using the technology also has more shelf value. "Hollywood is based on long term library value. Just as a colour film library has greater value than that of black and white films, 3D film libraries' value will have greater value than those on 2D."
But Landau is against the idea of converting 2D films into 3D saying it doesn't really make it a 3D one. "Perhaps it should be called a '2.8D film'!" he laughs.
After Hollywood, India and other Asian countries too have caught up on the 3D rage. Vikram Bhatt's 'Haunted', India's first film in stereoscopic 3D, a horror film in Hindi, has shown healthy returns.
China is producing Tsui Hark's 'The Flying Swords of Dragon Gate' in 3D, while Hong Kong is making widely varying films: 'Monkey King', 'Sex and Zen' (soft porn) and 'Legend of a Rabbit' (for kids).

Donald Duck 77th birthday

Donald Duck, one of the favorite Disney cartoon characters, is all set to turn 77 today.Created in 1934 by Walt Disney and Dick Lundy, the American cartoon character was originally a part of Disney's 'Fab 5' team including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck and Pluto.
Donald, who typically wears a sailor suit with a cap and a black or red bow tie, made his debut in the Silly Symphony cartoon 'The Wise Little Hen' on June 9, 1934.
The anthropomorphic white duck with a yellow-orange bill, legs, and feet, started his career with regular appearances in most Mickey Mouse animations.
But with growing popularity, Donald began starring in solo animation pieces, the first of which was 'Don Donald' in January 9, 1937

Obscene video clip of Salma' s daughter

Yesteryear actress Salma Agha met the City Police Commissioner on Wednesday seeking speedy probe into an obscene video clip in circulation on Youtube, featuring a "lookalike" of her daughter Zarah Khan. "The sexually explicit clip is not of my daughter.
It is morphed. The video has been circulated by someone to defame and harm my daughter's career as well as mine," Agha claimed after meeting Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik. Agha's daughter Zarah Khan on Saturday filed a complaint with Oshiwara police regarding the circulation of the objectionable clip on the video sharing site.According to Zarah, she first came to know about the clip from a journalist who called her up to seek her comments. Agha, who acted and gave playback in several Bollywood films, is a resident of plush Lokhandwala area of Oshiwara

I want to star in a film with Raghu: Sugandha

After starring in a handful of critically acclaimed films, Bollywood actress Sugandha Garg now wants to act in a film with her husband, TV personality and actor Raghu Ram, and says the project might in fact materialise by next year.
Despite making her debut with a group of new faces, the 27-year-old actress managed to grab the attention of the audience with her spunky role as Shaleen in ''Jaane Tu Ya Jane Na'' and went on to star in ''Tere Bin Laden'' and ''My Name Is Khan''.
Sugandha said that she now wants to share screen space with Raghu, the MTV Roadies producer who has acted in ''Tees Maar Khan'' and ''Jhoota Hi Sahi''.
"I have been together with Raghu for eight years and my first job was with him. I think he is a phenomenal actor and I want to do a film with him.
"I have been telling him about the idea but he wants to write the script or get into production. But I am adamant on sharing the screen with him. Hopefully by next year something should come up," Sugandha told PTI.
Raghu has carved a ''bad man'' image for himself with his rough behaviour and excessive use of expletives on his shows, but Sugandha says that her spouse is a thorough gentleman in real life"Asking me whether Raghu is actually like his image in Roadies is like asking a boxer if he goes and punches his wife at home. We all know he doesn''t. Raghu is a complete gentleman," said Sugandha. The actress is now making her foray into the small screen as a co-anchor, alongwith supermodel Indrani Dasgupta, on a travel show to analyse the character traits of Indian men.

Sonakshi excited for Telugu ‘Kick’s remake

After ‘Dabangg,’ Sonakshi’s next film with Salman, ‘Kick,’ will have more footage for her than she had in her debut. Says the confident newcomer, “‘Kick’ is a remake of a South Indian film. Mine is a very good role. There’s definitely much more scope for me in ‘Kick’ than ‘Dabangg.’ And I am going to make the best of it.”
While Sonakshi is part of ‘Dabangg 2,’ she’d love to be a part of the film that ‘Dabangg’ director Abhinav Kashyap makes, although the ‘Dabangg’ producer Arbaaz Khan and he parted bitterly recently.
Sonakshi’s brother Kush is now assisting Abhinav. Says Sonakshi, “Kush wants to direct films. He’s assisting Abhinav in directing ads. I don’t think Abhinav is directing another feature film right away. As and when Abhinav makes a film, I’d love to be part of it.”
She now starts three back-to-back films. “There’s ‘Kick’ with Salman Khan, ‘Rowdy Rathore’ with Akshay Kumar and ‘Vishwaroopam’ with Kamal Haasan. Then there’s ‘Dabangg 2’ coming up. I am so glad I’m working throughout the year. Getting success is easier than sustaining it.”
In ‘Vishwaroopam,’ Sonakshi gets to sport both Indian and western looks. “I love to see myself in saris. I hope I get to wear lots of them. We start shooting in June.”
Prospective producers will have to wait for a year. Sonakshi has no time. “I can’t do any more projects for a year.” Including the one with Ranvir Singh she is so keen on? “He’s quite a bundle of talent, isn’t he? Yeah, there are talks of a project with him. It’d be a good combination.”
Sonakshi says she doesn’t feel older but yes, wiser. “I realized when pushed to the wall I can fight back. There were many attempts to corner me. But thankfully I could take the beating on my chin. I always thought I was a lazy person. But I realized I could work hard. As long as I enjoy my work, how does it matter what people say about me? I guess being talked about is better than being ignored.”

Bollywood mourns MF Husain's demise

Legendary painter MF Husain had his heart in Bollywood and many from the film industry have expressed grief over his demise today.
"Very sad to hear that the great M F Husain is no more, RIP," veteran actor Dev Anand said on micro-blogging site Twitter.
"The news is shocking. It is yet to sink in. Just two days back I was discussing him with a friend. He was a great filmmaker who made films which he believed in and financed it himself. He was a special person and a genuine artist," director Anurag Kashyap told PTI.
Foraying into filmmaking with 'Through the Eyes of a Painter' in 1967, Hussain later made 'Gaja Gamini' with his then muse Madhuri Dixit, followed by 'Meenaxi: A tale of Three Cities' starring Tabu.

Prateik and Kalki's new puppy love

Prateik got so attached to Hero, a pup on the sets of his next film, My Friend Pinto that their 'chemistry' started troubling director Raghav Dhar.

He was heard complaining about the time the young actor and co-star Kalki Koechlin spent with the canine on the sets, rather than shooting.

MFP, which is being produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali revolves around Prateik, who plays Michael Pinto, and his relationship with this whelp.

Apparently, the two (seen in pictures on right) were inseparable, both while shooting and off it

What's the big deal about erotica?- Jacqueline

Not much noise is being made around this yet but the fact remains that erotica plays a major role in the narrative of Murder 2. As can be expected from this Bhatt franchise, Jacqueline Fernandez would be pretty much continuing from where Mallika Sherawat left in Murder.

"With the kind of script that Murder 2 boasts of, it was pretty much mandated for Emraan and Jackie to be shown in close proximity with each other. The logic shared by director Mohit Suri was that if the equation was to be established between a boyfriend and a girlfriend who have been in a passionate affair, they couldn't be held back on kissing or getting under the sheets on the bed", informs a source.

Though Mohit assured his cast that he won't be using erotica as a tool to sell the film, he wanted it to be an integral part of the film. Also, unlike Anurag Basu's vision for Murder where erotica was the focal point of the narrative, what with Emraan and Mallika being in an extra marital relationship, Mohit wanted the equation between Emraan and Jackie to be more rather than titillating.

"There is an equation that has to be established between me and Emraan in the film so it is but obvious that there would be some passionate encounters on-screen", Jackie doesn't hesitate in admitting shooting for such erotic sequences, "What's the big deal about this all? Why are we so hung up. It is a part of story telling after all."

Jackie is a little conscious though when asked to compare the erotic quotient of the two films. "Yes, there are scenes that are quite bold in Murder 2 but then I am not the right person to comment on whether it is more or less in comparison to Murder.

Her co-star is far more willing to share his views on the film though and assures that the film would deliver what is expected from it. "Come on, we are taking forward the legacy of Murder, aren't we", asks Emraan, "It has to be an out and out adult film and when it comes to films of such genre, you have to show passion on screen. What else did you expect from Murder 2? A kid's film?"

Well Emraan it was you and not us who was singing Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji not too many moons ago. You would know better if Murder 2 is for a 'bachcha' or a grown up guy!

It was fun shooting for Shaitan

Model turned actress Kirti Kulhari's debut was as the girl next door in Khichdi The Movie. Quite different from her next movie, Shaitan, where she has a rather daring kissing scene with female co-star Kalki Koechlin.

Kirti talks to Patcy N about her role in the film and the opposition she initially had to face from her family.

Tell us something about yourself. How did you get into films?

I belong to Pilani in Rajasthan. My dad is in the Indian Navy, a Commander, still serving. I went to school in Kendra Vidyalayas in different places because my dad was posted at different places. I did my BMS from Bhavan's College in Mumbai and a post-graduate diploma in journalism and mass communication.

When I was in college I got a few offers, but I was too young and immature so I thought I would complete my studies and then get into movies as a profession. I finished my studies and four years ago I got into this. I have done around 30 ads like Nivea Visage, Taj Mahal tea with Saif, Vaseline body lotion, Kaya, ICICI, Close-up, Travelguru, Videocon, to name some. Ads were just a way to get into films.

I also did a one-month theatre workshop with the Yatri group. I have acted in three of their plays and spent one year doing theatre. People knew me from my ads and I got a call to audition for Khichdi.

Likewise for Shaitan, Bejoy called me through a friend's reference. I gave two auditions, one was a solo and the other was with Kalki.

Minissha is Little Miss Sunshine

After a rather lukewarm appearance at the Cannes Film Festival and the whole customs fiasco, things are looking up for Minissha Lamba.

The music release of her new film Bheja Fry took place at Tryst -- a lounge in Phoenix Mills, South Mumbai.

Dressed in a metallic hue all over, Minissha looks bright as sunshine.

Prachi Desai and Emraan hashmi together again

After Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, Prachi Desai and Emraan Hashmi are all set to fire up the screen again in Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt's next, Informer.

However, a source reveals that for this project PD will have to turn her sex quotient a notch higher than before.

While the Bhatts and the film's co-producers Fox Star, refrained to comment until the formal announcement, the source informs that a lot is going into making a sexy seductress our of her.

She will apparently, go through an immense image makeover, the source adds.

"The seeds of her transformation were planted in OUATIM, where she moved out of her comfort zone and did love-making sequences with Emraan.

Now, with him as her co-star again, she will completely discard her sedate coy desi miss-won't-kiss image and emerge as the new femme-fatale in tinsel town."

The actress, who is said to have a no-kiss clause in her contracts, had made it clear to the producers that she wouldn't kiss Emraan in the Ajay Devgn-starrer in 2010.

She has also refused to kiss John Abraham in Shrishti Arya's next. Informer is a suspense-thriller that will be directed by Kunal Deshmukh.

Mallika makes a sexy Jalebi

Mallika Sherawat's list of item numbers is running long and deep. Her next sizzling act Jalebi Bai from Reliance Pictures and Maruti International's Double Dhamaal is one of the most awaited songs of 2011 and the trailers are going to hit channels later this week.

News is that Mallika is looking her sultry best and is all set to tempt you just as a freshly made hot jalebis! Sources from the sets confirm that the entire unit had a blast shooting for this particular song as the director Indra Kumar would call for as much as 25 kilos of Jalebis daily for the entire unit to feast on.

Now Sanju Baba to play Baba Ramdev

Mani Shankar, who is very close to Baba Ramdev, is so galvanised by the yoga guru's fast-unto-death (apparently, to countermand corruption) that he has decided to make a film on him.

The movie that will also include the Saturday-night incident when his fast at the Ramlila grounds in Delhi was disrupted, will be entitled Baba.

Mani is now closely monitoring Ramdev's movements in the Capital so that the filmmaker, who believes that research is the core of every story, can gather first hand information for his movie.

The director, who's previous outing Knock Out was based on money stored away in foreign accounts by politicians and the crusade to get it back, says, "I was fired by Baba's public stance to get back the money stashed away abroad. It inspired me to think of the story of KO.

Now, I have a new script that looks at the idea of corruption and politicians from Baba Ramdev's perspective."
